Chinese Art and Photography

Nourish your creativity and artistic process by immersing yourself in the aesthetics and visual cultures of China. We will survey the history of photography in China, analyze the style and approach of exemplary Chinese artists, and learn about elements of Chinese art and design.

Classes will also include weekly assignments, image reviews, discussions of tools and techniques, and developing a final portfolio. 

Intermediate level of Lightroom or Photoshop is required. Intermediate to advanced level. This class will be taught online via zoom.

Textures and Patterns in Nature

Nature provides us with a full range of textures and patterns that do not cease to enchant us. In this intermediate-level class you will learn how to capture nature’s design and organic forms with an artistic vision. We will learn about elements and principles of design, the use of light to sculpture the textures and carve out the details while paying attention to background and composition.

Classes will include lecture, weekly assignments, image reviews, and a final portfolio.

Basic knowledge of your camera’s manual settings and of editing software like Lightroom or Photoshop are required. This class will be taught online via Zoom.

The Fine Art Water Portfolio

Water, the essence of life, will be our canvas for creating artistic images. With a mindful vision we will slow down to explore the patterns of design formed by water and shorelines. You will learn the tools of your SLR or mirrorless camera to play with light dancing on the surface, isolate reflections, and direct your camera to paint works of water art.

Class includes presentation of work from photography artists, assignments, image reviews, and directions to develop a final portfolio.

Basic knowledge of your camera’s manual settings and of editing software like Lightroom or Photoshop are required. This class will be taught online via Zoom.

Picturing the Family

A box of old family photos is a box of identity, memory, and relationships. In this class, we will explore tools to unlock the stories behind our photos and to inspire novel portrayals of family and remembrance. Sharing our creative and artistic process, we will re-create family albums that make us laugh, connect, and understand individual identity, as well as collective pasts and cultural memory.

Class includes weekly assignments, image reviews, discussions of tools and techniques, and developing a final portfolio. 

Intermediate level of editing software like Lightroom or Photoshop are required.

This class will be taught online via zoom.
